Dear Richard:
Procedure is not hoax. This a crude way of Auricular therapy basically
practiced by individuals who are not usually licensed in Acupuncture. the
staples are basically replacement for the needles. Needles are relatively
more invasive and undoubtedly more effective.
We may help these patients by inserting semi-permanent needles either "spinex
flat needles" or Nogier's larger needles in points in the ear that have to do
with eating. Needles could be left in place for weeks as long as they do not
cause pain, and could be replaced if they fall.
In auricular therapy possible points are: Hunger point on the upper 1/2 of
tragus, Thalamus point on the anti-tragus, or the area in the concha that
borders the auditory meatus which is in fact the vagus nerve nuclei
presentation. In Auricular Medicine the use of Filters can identify the exact
points needing treatment.
